• What we do
Our services
Four specialisms, one joined-up approach: keep your buildings compliant, generate cleaner power, cut what you consume, and cut what you are charged for the rest.
Electrical compliance
Fixed wire testing (EICR), PAT testing, emergency lighting, thermal imaging and remedial works: keeping your estate safe, certified and compliant with BS 7671 and your legal duties.
Electrical compliance services →
Renewables
Commercial solar PV, battery storage and EV charging infrastructure: designed, installed and maintained by qualified engineers, with fully funded options that need no capital outlay.
Renewable energy services →
Energy efficiency
Energy audits, LED lighting upgrades, lighting controls, building controls and sub-metering, reducing consumption, carbon and cost across your portfolio.
Energy efficiency services →
Energy consultancy
Agreed capacity and kVA charges, export agreements, procurement, water and drainage costs and ESOS and SECR compliance. Reducing what you are charged, rather than what you consume.

• Fully funded solar
Commercial solar with nothing to pay up front
Two funding routes put a commercial solar system on your roof without releasing capital. A Power Purchase Agreement, where a funder owns the system and you buy the power at a fixed rate below grid. Or hire purchase, where the energy savings cover the repayments and you own it at the end.
£0
Capital outlay on a Power Purchase Agreement.
2–7 yrs
Typical hire purchase term, after which generation is effectively free.
25%
Corporation tax relief on the full system cost in year one, if you own the asset.
25 yrs
Panel performance warranties across the life of the system.
• How we work
From first survey to long-term support
Step 1
Assess
Site surveys, compliance reviews and energy audits establish exactly where you stand.
Step 2
Design
Tailored solutions engineered to your building, budget and sustainability goals.
Step 3
Install
Qualified engineers deliver on time, to British Standards, with minimal disruption.
Step 4
Maintain
Bespoke maintenance packages, monitoring and reporting keep everything performing.
• Part of the Smartec Group
A new division with a decade of delivery behind it
Smartec Energy is the energy arm of the Smartec Group, which has spent over a decade delivering large-scale building services projects for commercial, industrial and public sector clients. The division is new; the project management, the delivery processes, the supply chain and the financial backing behind it are not.
- All works carried out to British Standards and Regulations
- Design, installation, commissioning and maintenance managed end to end
- Transparent reporting your board and ESG returns can use
- Nationwide delivery from a single point of contact
Where we work hardest
- Warehousing, logistics and cold storage
- Manufacturing and industrial estates
- Commercial landlords and multi-site portfolios
- Care homes, schools and academies
- Local authorities and public sector estates
- Leisure centres, agriculture and data facilities
- Multi-site retail and car dealership groups
Large roofs and heavy daytime electricity consumption are the two things that make renewable projects pay. These sectors tend to have both, which is why they see the shortest payback on solar and the biggest wins from efficiency work.
• Where to start
The order that saves the most money
Most enquiries begin with solar, because it is the visible option. It is usually the second thing to do rather than the first, and the sequence below reliably produces a cheaper result than doing them in the order they occur to people.
First
Measure
An energy audit and monitoring establish what the building actually uses and when. Without a baseline, every saving claimed afterwards is an assertion rather than a measurement.
Second
Reduce
Lighting, controls and the quick wins. There is no sense sizing a solar array to power lighting you could halve for a fraction of the cost, and these measures pay back fastest.
Third
Generate
Solar sized against the reduced consumption, which means a smaller, cheaper system better matched to the building. Funded routes mean this need not wait for capital.
Forth
Store
Battery storage sized against a full year of real generation data rather than a forecast, so you buy the capacity you need and no more.
Alongside
Stay compliant
Fixed wire testing, PAT and emergency lighting run on their own cycle throughout. Generation work frequently surfaces remedial items on the existing installation.
Throughout
Verify
Consumption compared against the baseline with weather and occupancy normalised out, reported in a form your board and ESG returns can use.
Group track record
Delivered for some of the UK's most demanding estates
Smartec Energy is the energy division of the Smartec Group. These are the group’s clients and projects: the same delivery standards, project management and financial backing, now applied to energy.

Buildings the group has worked on
Smartec Energy is new. The engineering standards behind it have been proven on estates where getting it wrong was never an option.
"Jobs are always handed over on time or early and any snags attended to promptly and correctly. All the employees are polite and courteous. Their staff’s knowledge and training are of an extremely high standard."

"I can’t remember them ever letting me down in the probably 8–10 years that we have been working together."

• Common questions
Questions we get asked first
Three things: electrical compliance testing and remedials; renewable energy installation including commercial solar panels, battery storage and EV charging; and energy efficiency work such as audits, LED upgrades and controls. Most clients start with one and add the others.
The Electricity at Work Yes. Our head office is in Maidstone and we deliver nationwide for commercial, industrial and public sector clients. Local presence matters most for compliance programmes with frequent site visits; solar and efficiency projects are managed the same way wherever the site is.
Yes, through a Power Purchase Agreement. A funder pays for, owns and maintains the system, and you buy the electricity it generates at a fixed rate below your grid import price. Hire purchase is the other no-capital route, where the energy savings cover the monthly repayments and you own the system at the end.
Send a recent electricity bill and your site address and we’ll come back within two working days with an indicative system size, generation forecast and funding comparison, before anyone visits site.
Smartec Energy is the group’s energy division. The group has spent over a decade delivering fire, security and building services on large commercial estates. The energy division is newer, but the project management, delivery processes, supply chain and financial backing come from the same business.
Efficiency, almost always. Cutting consumption first means the generation system you then install is smaller, cheaper and better matched to what the building actually uses. We’ll tell you if your site is an exception.
